For those of you who don’t know, an awesome thing has been happening in the blogisphere for the past few years called NaNoWriMo -AKA National Novel Writing Month. Essentially, writers of all kinds can accept the challenge to write a 50,000 word novel by the end of November.

And this year, I’ve decided to pick up the torch!

About a year ago, I stumbled upon a story idea for a fiction writing course. I wanted to run with it. However, it was a short story writing class. Meaning, I couldn’t develop the story I wanted to. The vision inside my head was novel in size- not ten pages or less. As much as I squeezed I couldn’t get it down past twelve, and I knew I wasn’t telling the story I wanted to tell within those constraints. So, I had to store away my special little story for a day when I would have the time to take it on.

Days turned to weeks, weeks to months- you get the gist. I was unable to bring myself to reopen that document file on my computer. I kept telling myself I was too busy and had too many other priorities. Plus, a demon of doubt started wedging itself in that no one but me would actually like this story. It has been sitting in virtual dust ever since tucking it away for a mediocre story to get the grade in my writing class.

Naturally, when I heard about NaNoWriMo 2013 I knew this could be an opportunity to ease myself back into a story I was so captivated with in the past. The way I see it, there is no way to fail in participating in this event. Even if I don’t become a “Winner” (someone who completed the 50,000 words), I will be farther than I stand today. Challenge accepted!

If you are interested in joining this fun writing fest, feel free to visit the NaNoWriMo official website. Also, I found this article on WordPress to be a great intro into what this event is about. And, did I mention, you get a nice blog badge thingy-mabob. Who doesn’t like those?
